Job summary

Quantinuum in Broomfield, CO is seeking an R&D Manager - Commercial System Manager to lead a diverse team focused on trapped-ion quantum computer designs and hardware. This role blends technical leadership with people management, guiding system architecture, validation, and cross-functional collaboration.

The position includes mentoring staff, managing program execution, and advancing hardware-development best practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree minimum.
8+ years of technical R&D (graduate school included).
5+ years in development/operation of AMO and/or QC systems.
2+ years leading an advanced technical team.
U.S. Person status required (citizenship/permanent residency/visa).
National security restrictions apply for China/Russia nationals.

Responsibilities

Own the system-level design, build, and development for next-gen Quantinuum systems, incl. architecture and validation.
Guide technical trade studies to reduce risks and mature concepts into designs.
Develop test plans with subsystem leads (electrical, optical, microfabrication, software, vacuum, cryogenics).
Set strategic team plans with milestones, handoffs, and interdependencies with partners.
Manage program execution: resources, progress tracking, risks and opportunities.
Mentor, coach, hire, and develop direct-report engineers and scientists; manage performance and compensation.
