Position Description

The Lead Quality Control Engineer (LQCE) will manage the QC process on Hensel Phelps projects, exercising judgment in quality control recommendations, policy implementation, and handling various QC matters in the field and office. They may mentor less-experienced QC engineers or perform QC activities on multiple projects. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Position Qualifications

• A 4-year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or construction management.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience on large commercial construction projects.
• Strong communication skills.
• Technical proficiency in understanding specifications, standards, and codes for disciplines like architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Prolog, Primavera, and AutoCAD.

Essential Duties

• Review and update the project quality process log (QPL) and provide feedback to the QC manager.
• Oversee removal and replacement of non-conforming work and stop work in case of non-compliance.
• Be familiar with contracts, plans, specifications, and codes; submit and review RFIs for field changes.
• Coordinate daily test and inspection schedules based on trade partner requests.
• Participate in work completion tagging, punch list, and pre-final punch list processes to document deficiencies.
• Audit trade partner QC procedures and participate in quality recognition programs.
• Engage in continuous improvement and lessons learned initiatives.
• Conduct safety and housekeeping inspections through the SAFE program.

Physical Work Classification & Demands

Moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and frequent movements such as walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, and climbing. Must be able to operate a vehicle and work in various environmental conditions, including noise, temperature extremes, and outdoor elements.
