Job summary

Telex LLC seeks a Lead Protection and Control Technician (Remote) to own commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of protective relaying schemes across substations. You’ll lead field execution, mentor junior techs, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years field experience in relay testing and substation commissioning.
• Expertise in three-phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment and automation systems.
• Perform advanced end-to-end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
• Execute functional and scheme testing: reclosing, breaker failure, and communication-assisted protection.
• Troubleshoot and optimize protocols including DNP3 and Modbus.
• Develop and refine standardized commissioning and testing procedures.
• Mentor junior technicians and oversee field execution for safety and quality.
• Partner with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver reliability.
