Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced Principal Propulsion Engineer for the Elkton, Maryland facility to design solid-propellant propulsion systems and lead product teams. The role involves collaboration with customers and interdisciplinary teams to meet mission requirements.

The ideal candidate has a STEM degree with 5+ years of related experience, US citizenship, and eligibility for DoD Secret Clearance. Relocation may be available along with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5+ years of experience; Master’s 3 years or PhD 1 year accepted
• US citizenship required; eligible for DoD Secret Clearance
• Experience designing SRM assemblies/components and performing high-level calculations

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet program milestones and customer expectations; potential to lead program teams
• Work directly with customers to understand requirements and design drivers
• Coordinate a multi-disciplinary strategy for design, optimization, and analysis to meet mission requirements
• Design SRM assemblies/components with focus on safety and program requirements
• Perform high-level performance and sizing calculations on SRM components and assemblies
• Develop solid-propellant propulsion systems for launch vehicles, missile systems, and/or space missions
• Produce detailed drawings for component fabrication
• Assist with SRM builds, test execution, and data reduction
• Support testing activities needed to validate designs
