Job summary

Halmar International is seeking a Project Engineer to support heavy civil construction projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will oversee submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, logs, and coordination with subcontractors to keep projects on schedule.

The role requires strong documentation, team leadership, and the ability to work long hours during peak periods, with a focus on safety, quality, and timely project closeout.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years construction industry experience, preferably heavy civil (bridge, highway, tunnel, infrastructure).
• Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work with a team.
• Willing to work late hours during peak demands and respond to communications.
• Knowledge of construction docs, cost control, scheduling, and labor management.
• Familiar with company software and MS Project/Office.
• Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
• Experience leading junior engineers, interns, or field staff.
• Excellent editing, proofreading, and writing skills.
• Enjoys a fast-paced environment; be innovative and resourceful.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of project documentation including submittals, RFIs and meeting minutes.
• Prepare required logs and other project documentation for construction meetings.
• Distribute revised drawings and changes to subcontractors.
• Prepare change orders and track subcontractor pricing for PM review.
• Coordinate with project team to ensure timely close out.
• Print and perform minor schedule updates.
• Track milestone dates to meet submittal deadlines.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to obtain submittal docs and material lead times.
• Lead a team of junior engineers and interns on heavy civil projects.
