Lead Project Engineer — Heavy Civil Construction

Job summary

Branch is seeking a Project Engineer to lead all engineering and technical aspects of projects, reporting to the Project Manager. The role focuses on planning, accuracy and quality across budgets, schedules, and documentation.

You will oversee permits, RFIs, Change Orders, and subcontractor invoicing, while supporting safety and project closeout, with extensive site interaction and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Master’s degree in engineering/Construction preferred.
• Experience in heavy civil or large site construction is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Measure, report and forecast accurate cost and revenue dollars and quantities.
• Review contract documents, drawings and specifications.
• Assist PM in defining project budget and cost codes.
• Prepare initial budget adjustments for PM review.
• Ensure permits are acquired as required.
• Maintain and update RFIs, Change Orders, and Submittal Logs.
• Support quality control and ensure approved materials are used.
• Draft and submit Change Orders and RFIs per PM approval.
• Approve subcontractor invoices at PM final approval.
• Review end-of-month billings and report projections.
• Develop and communicate a project plan with the superintendent.
• Monitor work to ensure means and methods are followed.
• Maintain and update project schedule for PM review.
• Review material tracking and promote safety culture.
