Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Cost Engineer to plan, manage, and execute cost control activities for large capital construction projects or portfolios. The role involves analyzing cost performance, creating estimates, building budgets, and frequent interaction with the Capital Finance Team.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience and excellent communication skills. Salary ranges are provided with potential geo-pay adjustments and incentive programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
• Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly analysis and reporting of cost performance for project teams and Capital Finance.
• Develop bottom-up forecasts quarterly to evaluate cost and schedule against estimates.
• Review and enter invoices in Ariba-on-Demand and develop monthly accruals.
• Coordinate with Finance on journal entries and corrections.
• Assist in development of annual operating plan with project managers and Capital Finance.
• Oversee department budget administration and adjustments for new funding.
