Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support refinery operations by identifying, assessing, and reducing process safety risks across multiple units. You will work with operations and technical experts to enhance risk management programs, strengthen safety culture, and protect people, assets, and the environment.

The role requires strong refinery knowledge, with relocation to a Wisconsin refinery being a possibility.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Safety, Environmental Science, or related technical discipline preferred.
8+ years of experience in process engineering, operations, technical safety, or process safety within refining/chemical/oil & gas industries.
Working knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Experience with process safety methodologies including MOC, PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

Lead process safety risk assessments and risk management activities across the refinery.
Ensure compliance with PSM and RMP requirements while promoting industry best practices.
Facilitate key process safety reviews (MOC, HAZOP, LOPA, PSSR) for plant changes and startups.
Monitor process safety performance metrics and recommend improvements.
Conduct hazard evaluations, consequence modeling, and root-cause investigations.
Partner with operations and experts to strengthen safety culture.
Lead new process safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Support management system compliance and gap closure actions.
