Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Principal Field Sales Trainer based in the United States.

The Lead Principal Field Sales Trainer serves as a field-based extension of Commercial Learning & Development, helping translate training strategies and commercial priorities into effective, consistent sales execution. Working closely with training and sales leadership, this role strengthens representative capabilities through hands-on coaching, field observations, and targeted development. The position supports new-Hire onboarding, ongoing sales training, product launches, and other learning initiatives. It also identifies performance trends and capability gaps to inform future development strategies. This is a highly collaborative, customer-focused role suited to an experienced sales or training professional who can work independently while maintaining strong alignment with organizational priorities. The position is remote, with extensive field travel across the United States.

Accountabilities
  • Field Coaching and Development: Conduct frequent field visits and ride-alongs with both new and experienced sales representatives to observe customer interactions and assess selling effectiveness. Provide timely, practical feedback to strengthen clinical knowledge, customer engagement, account strategy, and overall sales execution.
  • Training Implementation and Field Readiness: Reinforce Commercial Learning & Development programs in the field, including product and clinical training, sales techniques, commercial processes, product launches, and key organizational priorities. Ensure that training translates into consistent, effective performance.
  • New-Hire Development: Partner with training teams and sales leadership to accelerate new-Hire readiness. Reinforce onboarding content, evaluate how representatives apply their learning in the field, and provide ongoing coaching as they transition to independent territory management.
  • Ongoing Sales Capability Development: Identify the development needs of experienced representatives and deliver targeted coaching to address skill gaps, strengthen selling capabilities, and support performance in complex and evolving customer environments.
  • Field Insights and Performance Trends: Document coaching activities and analyze recurring strengths, development needs, and capability gaps. Share actionable insights with Commercial Learning & Development and Sales Leadership to guide future training and reinforcement strategies.
  • Learning Program Support: Facilitate and contribute to new-Hire training, ongoing learning programs, certifications, workshops, regional and national meetings, product launches, and other initiatives according to business needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Maintain close alignment with Commercial Learning & Development leadership and Sales Leadership to identify development priorities and support broader commercial objectives.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all applicable company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Professional Experience: At least 10 years of successful sales and/or training experience, preferably in healthcare, biotechnology, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, or a related industry.
  • Specialty Market Experience: Previous sales or training experience in neurology, rare disease, or similarly complex specialty markets is preferred, particularly experience engaging institutional customer groups.
  • Product Launch Expertise: Direct experience supporting complex product launches, expanded indications, or highly competitive therapeutic markets is preferred.
  • Travel and Mobility: Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively, with travel expected to reach at least 70% based on business needs.
  • Coaching and Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver clear, constructive, and actionable feedback during field observations.
  • Organization and Prioritization: Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to balance travel, coaching responsibilities, and multiple training initiatives effectively.
  • Collaboration and Adaptability: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with representatives, sales leaders, and training partners while tailoring support to individual and team development needs.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Self-Direction: Demonstrated ability to take initiative and operate independently in a field-based position with limited supervision, while maintaining alignment with leadership and organizational priorities.
  • Work Environment: Remote position requiring substantial time in the field with sales representatives, as well as travel to support new-Hire training, the annual National Sales Meeting, and conventions as needed.
Benefits
  • Full-time, remote position based in the United States.
  • Opportunity to work across field sales, commercial learning, and development initiatives.
  • Broad exposure to product launches, specialty markets, and national sales training programs.
