Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in Greenville, SC is seeking a Burn Crew Manager to supervise a three-person seasonal crew and coordinate prescribed-fire operations across montane forests and other terrains in SC. You will lead safety and training, oversee timekeeping, equipment needs, and supplies, and act as a key decision maker on the fire line with partners and staff.

Qualifications include FFT1, NWCG arduous rating, crew supervision experience, a valid license, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Qualified Fire Fighter Type1 (Squad Boss) and FFT1 task book completed.
• NWCG arduous wildland firefighter rating achievable (45lb pack 3 miles in 45 min).
• Experience supervising staff or volunteers.
• Willingness to travel extensively and flexible schedule.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise burn crew, coordinate with fire management staff.
• Monitor crew progress toward fire management goals.
• Handle time tracking, equipment repair and supply purchases.
• Make key fire line decisions based on fire behavior and resources.
• Maintain professional development and new burn techniques.
