Lead Preschool Teacher for 2025-2026 Academic Year
Sunbeams Lutheran School is searching for a Lead Teacher in our Project-Based Learning, play-based, preschool environment of young learners. The teacher should be enthusiastic, energetic and ready to share her faith while inspiring God’s beloved children to become life-long learners. Teacher must hold or continue working towards a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Establishes a positive, encouraging, supportive, cooperative and caring Christian environment. Maintains an environment in which learning takes place and each child is encouraged and affirmed.
- Provides daily contact with God through Bible stories, planting and nurturing the seeds of faith and knowledge of Jesus and His love for them.
- Reviews Washington standards through GLEs and EALRs and sets written grade level goals for the children in their classroom.
- Agrees to be trained in and adheres to our chosen curriculum approach
- Implements goals effectively throughout the school year by providing daily experiences that are age and developmentally appropriate.
- Sets the classroom schedule through a yearly plan, weekly lesson plans and a daily schedule of learning events, with approval of the School Administrator.
- Develops the whole child by integrating all subjects of the curriculum: language arts, math and number concepts, social studies, science, art, music, computer skills, and motor skills.
- Uses a variety of teaching techniques and styles, providing activities that promote visual, auditory and kinesthetic experiences—using a multi-sensory approach.
- Creates an atmosphere that encourages self-control, good listening, and positive social interaction with peers and adults.
- Maintains positive and consistent classroom discipline.
- Keeps accurate records of student attendance and progress.
- Prepares and leads parent conferences in a positive and helpful manner for each student. Parents of preschool and prekindergarten students will be offered 2 formal conferences per school year.
- Informal parent conferences will be offered as needed.
- A portfolio of learning accomplishments will be kept for each student, including work samples, writing samples, photographs of learning activities, formal and informal assessment reports, and anecdotal records.
- Helps to maintain a safe, positive, and healthy school environment in their classroom, in the school building as a whole and on the school playground.
- Assists the School Administrator in developing and implementing short-term and long-range goals for their classroom and the school as a whole.
- Attends staff devotions and staff meetings.
- Gives direction and leadership to classroom instructional aides and volunteers
- Arranges for and always provides for the proper supervision of children, in the building and on the playground.
- Writes weekly lessons plans with copies given to the School Administrator and to the student’s parents prior to the beginning of each week.
- Welcomes each family with friendliness and a smile—being an ambassador of Christ’s love to each family.
- Is always ready to be a witness of their faith to children and their families.

- Is a member of a Christian congregation.
- Evidences a lifestyle that reflects a dynamic relationship with Christ.
- Demonstrates a Christ-like love for children and their families.
- Is open-minded, patient, and cheerful in their approach to teaching and working with other staff members.
- Is sensitive to the needs and feelings of others, showing Christian concern and respect for all.
- Is honest, dependable, punctual, self-disciplined, self-motivated, creative, caring and enthusiastic.
- Is warm, tactful, courteous, and an effective listener.
- Works in a positive manner, under the direction of the School Administrator and SLSB.
- Interacts in a positive and professional manner with students, school and church staff, and parents.
- Connects with fellow workers in a team relationship, showing loyalty, harmony, and cooperation with a common purpose in the mission and ministry for Christ and His Kingdom.
Education and Experience:
- Preschool teacher must have or continue working towards a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Teachers must be willing to continue to advance professionally through district teacher’s conferences, workshops, and/or continuing education classes.
- Certified teachers must be willing to take classes to meet state requirements for continued certification
