Cushing Terrell is seeking a Senior Protection & Studies Engineer to lead and grow our power system protection practice. You will design, analyze, and implement protection schemes for substations, distribution systems, and industrial facilities, serving as the technical authority across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (or comity) in the hiring state.
• Advanced knowledge of ETAP.
• Proficient with Bluebeam, Outlook and Microsoft Office.
• Experience in electrical substations, distribution, and industrial installations with applicable codes.
• Ability to prepare fee proposals and reports.
• Ability to work independently or under supervision.
• Ability to administer construction contracts and conduct on-site observation.

Responsibilities

• Perform short‑circuit, load‑flow, coordination, grounding, and protection studies as required.
• Conduct power system studies using analysis software.
• Create protective relay settings and files using vendor software.
• Apply NERC-PRC standards to relay coordination and reporting.
• Develop protection schemes for substations and industrial installations.
• Coordinate with P&C and other substation design teams.
• Maintain knowledge of processes affecting productivity and quality of contract documents.
• Act as Engineer-in-charge and review construction documents.
• Build client relationships and participate in project interviews.
• Conduct project closeout and quality investigations.
