Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Senior Protection & Studies Engineer to lead and grow our power system protection practice. This role offers the opportunity to shape our protection capabilities while delivering hands-on engineering excellence.

You will design protection schemes, perform system studies, coordinate relay settings, and mentor a growing team, collaborating across disciplines on high-impact projects that influence firm strategy and technical direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of job-related experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain by comity).
• Advanced knowledge of Electrical Systems Analysis Software (ETAP preferred).
• Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
• Proven experience in electrical system design including substations, distribution, and industrial installations.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection studies for substations, distribution, and industrial facilities.
• Perform short-circuit, load-flow, coordination studies.
• Develop protective relay settings and files.
• Apply NERC-PRC standards and generate compliance reports.
• Coordinate with P&C design teams.
• Act as Engineer-in-responsible-charge and stamp construction documents.
• Develop client relationships and participate in project interviews.
• Oversee project closeout and quality investigations.
