Job summary

Amperesand, based in San Francisco, seeks a power electronics engineer to design isolated and non-isolated converter stages and advanced topologies for MV/LV systems.

You will optimize loss, cost, and size across semiconductors, magnetics, and cooling, while developing control algorithms and models for closed-loop operation. Join a team delivering scalable energy infrastructure with on-site work five days a week.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in power electronics or electromagnetics, or related field.
• Strong fundamentals in power converter topologies, modulation techniques, and design trade-off analysis.
• Experience with SiC/GaN devices in high-density designs.

Responsibilities

• Design isolated and non-isolated converter stages, implementing multi-level converters, cascaded H-bridges, DAB, with robust MV/LV isolation.
• Perform trade-off analysis optimizing loss, cost, and size across semiconductors, magnetics, and cooling.
• Develop modulation techniques and control algorithms for modular power stages.
• Create static and dynamic models for power stage hardware to support closed-loop control.
• Design and verify high-voltage isolation strategies across LV-MV domains.
• Use FEA simulations to design magnetics and guide high-power PCBA designs.
• Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing and test teams to own full development cycle.
