We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics to design, develop, test, and deploy advanced megawatt-class power conversion systems for next-generation energy storage technology.
The engineer will own electrical hardware from initial architecture and schematic development through board/system bring-up, validation, debugging, and field deployment. This role requires a highly hands-on engineer who can work across power electronics, controls, mechanical, firmware, thermal, and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect bidirectional, grid-facing MW-class power conversion systems.
- Evaluate converter topologies and select switching devices, magnetics, capacitors, sensors, and protection components.
- Design high-voltage power stages, gate drives, sensing systems, controls interfaces, grounding, and supporting electronics.
- Develop fast fault detection, protection systems, interlocks, safe-state behavior, and supervisory controls.
- Design and build electrical test infrastructure and instrumentation.
- Lead board and system bring-up, debugging, characterization, and design iterations.
- Integrate electrical systems with magnet, cryogenic, vacuum, mechanical, firmware, and controls engineering.
- Take electrical systems from initial schematic through reliable operation and field deployment.
- Support design-for-manufacturing and hardware production activities.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical and electromechanical systems and drive solutions from concept to implementation.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience, including internships or co-ops, designing, analyzing, building, testing, commissioning, or manufacturing electrical/electromechanical hardware.
- Strong understanding of electrical and electromechanical components.
- Experience with electrical hardware design and development.
- Ability to work hands-on with hardware during testing, debugging, and validation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with several of the following:
- High-voltage, high-current, or high-power electrical systems.
- Power semiconductors, gate drives, magnetics, sensing, controls, and protection.
- SiC or GaN converters.
- Grid-tied inverters.
- UPS or battery systems.
- Pulse-power systems.
- Magnet power supplies.
- Superconducting magnets.
- Fusion systems, accelerators, cryogenic systems, or other high-energy hardware.
- Hardware schematic development, layout, bring-up, debugging, and validation.
- Electrical system commissioning and field deployment.
- Design-for-manufacturing and production-scale hardware.
- Cross-functional integration with firmware, controls, mechanical, thermal, and electrical engineering teams.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has taken electrical hardware from concept through schematic, build, bring-up, debugging, validation, and real-world operation. They should be comfortable working hands-on while also making system-level technical decisions and solving ambiguous engineering problems.
Compensation:
$125,000 – $250,000 annually
