Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Lead Powder Coat Painter for a contract-to-hire role in Minneapolis, MN. You will lead powder coating operations, apply powder materials in the paint booth, and support line loading, with flexible placement across production areas.

This is a fully onsite, day-shift role with strict safety standards. You will operate and maintain coating equipment, manage materials, monitor pretreatment and curing processes, and mentor junior staff to ensure quality, throughput, and safety

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Title: Lead Powder Coat Painter

Job Description

The Lead Powder Coat Painter oversees and performs high-quality powder coating operations within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role requires advanced knowledge of powder paint systems, application techniques, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting. You will spend most of your time in the paint booth performing powder coat painting, while also supporting part loading and unloading on the paint line and flexing to other production areas as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality powder coat painting in the paint booth for the majority of the workday, following established specifications and quality standards.

• Apply powder coating materials using appropriate techniques and equipment, ensuring consistent coverage, finish, and adherence to safety guidelines.

• Set up, operate, and maintain powder coating application equipment, including spray systems, guns, and related tools, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

• Manage powder materials, including understanding types, properties, and proper storage to maintain material integrity and performance.

• Operate and maintain cleaning and pretreatment systems, including monitoring chemistry, testing processes, performing routine maintenance, and adhering to regulatory requirements.

• Use conveyance systems to move parts through the coating process and perform basic maintenance to keep these systems running efficiently.

• Perform part masking and hanging with a focus on quality, line density, and optimal transfer efficiency, ensuring parts are correctly prepared for coating.

• Set up, monitor, and maintain cure ovens, adjusting settings as needed to achieve proper curing and finish quality.

• Conduct overall automated system maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production flow.

• Interpret and work with different material properties, including flatness, surface grades, types, and gauge, to adjust coating processes appropriately.

• Assist with putting parts on and taking parts off the paint line when needed to support production requirements.

• Flex to other areas of the production floor as needed, supporting related industrial painting, prep, sanding, blasting, or spray painting activities.

• Follow all safety, cleanliness, and gowning procedures in the paint booth and production area, maintaining a safe and orderly work environment.

Essential Skills

• Advanced knowledge of powder paint systems and applications, including powder materials, types, properties, and proper storage practices.

• Hands-on experience with powder coat painting in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency with cleaning and pretreatment systems, including understanding chemistry, testing methods, monitoring processes, and regulatory requirements.

• Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot powder coating application equipment and spray systems.

• Experience with conveyance systems and basic maintenance to support continuous production flow.

• Skill in part masking and hanging techniques focused on quality, line density, and optimal transfer efficiency.

• Knowledge of cure oven setup, maintenance, and monitoring to ensure proper curing and finish quality.

• Industrial painting experience, including paint prep, sanding, sandblasting, and spray painting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a larger manufacturing environment with an air-conditioned production floor, providing a more comfortable setting for industrial painting and powder coating work. You will primarily work in a paint booth, wearing appropriate gowning and protective attire while handling powder coating materials and operating spray and conveyance equipment. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Thursday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., supporting a consistent work routine within a structured production operation.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
