Job summary

The University of Virginia's Department of Medicine seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Sturek Laboratory, an NIH-funded translational pulmonary immunology and fibrosis group.

This leadership role mentors trainees, designs experiments, and partners with the PI to advance research on B cells and IgA in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis using mass cytometry, RNA sequencing, and related techniques. The position is 12 months with potential renewal and on-site work in Charlottesville, VA.

Qualifications

• PhD in biosciences or MD with research emphasis required at hire
• Strong laboratory leadership and organizational abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to mentor/training students and trainees
• Experience with high-dimensional data like mass cytometry is desired

Responsibilities

• Lead laboratory projects and oversee experimental design and interpretation
• Serve as scientific partner to the principal investigator and manage regulatory needs
• Teach rotating trainees including fellows, residents, PhD candidates and students
• Prepare proposals and manuscripts and assist in grant applications
