Job description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative research program focused on pulmonary injury, repair, and fibrosis, with particular emphasis on immune cell-epithelial-endothelial niches that regulate lung remodeling and disease progression.

The laboratory uses mouse models of lung injury and fibrosis, human lung samples, alveolar epithelial organoids, flow cytometry, molecular and cellular biology, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and multi-omics approaches to define mechanisms of lung injury, repair failure, and fibrotic remodeling. Current projects investigate macrophage-epithelial-endothelial interactions, transitional epithelial cell states, vascular remodeling, inflammation, tissue repair, and therapeutic targets in pulmonary fibrosis. Please refer to related publications: Nat Commun. 16(1):1761. Commun Biol. 6(1):1047. Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 206(4):459-475.

Applicants should have a strong interest in pulmonary biology, lung injury and repair, fibrosis, immunology, vascular biology, epithelial biology, or related areas. Prior experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: mouse models, lung injury/fibrosis models, flow cytometry, immunostaining, confocal microscopy, organoid culture, molecular biology, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, bioinformatics, or multi-omics data analysis.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated, scientifically curious, well organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong written and oral communication skills are expected.

Interested applicants should submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests and career goals, and contact information for 2-3 references.
