Job summary

The State of Minnesota is seeking a Plumber Supervisor in Saint Paul to lead a team of five licensed plumbers, oversee plumbing, pipefitting and HVAC systems, and ensure code compliance and safety across Capitol Complex facilities.

This role combines supervisory authority with hands‑on trades work, managing staff, workflows, and project quality to maintain reliable, code‑compliant building infrastructure.

Qualifications

• One (1) year supervisory or lead work experience within the last five (5) years over one or more skilled trades effectively giving verbal and written work instructions and directing and critiquing the work of subordinate staff.
• Current Master Plumber license issued by the State of MN.
• Current Backflow Prevention Certification (Applicants who do not currently possess Backflow Prevention Certification must obtain one within one year of hire).
• Current City of St. Paul Certificate of Competency as a Master Plumber (Applicants who do not currently possess this Certification must obtain within one year of hire)
• Driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Computer skills sufficient to utilize Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Inspect job sites — including outside contractor work — for plumbing code compliance across Capitol Complex facilities
• Maintain, repair, and install plumbing, HVAC, and related systems (fixtures, water heaters, fire sprinklers, gas piping, backflow prevention, and more)
• Respond to emergency repairs (frozen/broken pipes, HVAC failures, gas issues) with minimal disruption to building occupants
• Review project plans and specifications, recommend improvements, and ensure completed work meets code and specification
• Lead the shop's preventive maintenance and safety programs, including OSHA compliance and specialty inspections (RPZ testing, fire suppression, etc.)
