Qualifications

• 18 months of plumbing training or 18 months of verifiable work experience under supervision
• Formal arithmetic education including fractions and percentages and reading/writing English vocabulary
• Six months of experience as Plumber 1 (if applicable) or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Lead worker directing plumbers and trades workers or inmates in plumbing tasks
• Install, modify and repair plumbing systems including unclogging fixtures and replacing components
• Install water, steam and gas lines and hook up equipment in various settings
• Maintain facilities and inspect plumbing for corrosion and wear
• Check and lubricate pumps and valves and change filters
• Make minor repairs on steam lines
• Handle support duties such as ordering supplies and equipment
• Read blueprints, prepare estimates and maintain records
• Establish and run preventive maintenance programs for plumbing systems
• Serve on institutional committees and participate in required trainings
• Perform security duties as needed (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement)
