Job summary

Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. seeks a Lead Controls Engineer to direct design, development, and optimization of control-system architectures for large-scale municipal projects.

You will lead cross-functional teams across PLCs, HMI/SCADA, and DCS integrations, ensuring standards and best practices are applied. The role requires 3+ years in automation, strong leadership and mentoring abilities, and willingness to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in automation, controls engineering, or related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA system design and programming.
• Strong understanding of control system architecture, industrial networking, and system integration.
• Demonstrated leadership experience or ability to lead projects and mentor engineering teams.
• Experience in municipal or mission-critical environments (water/wastewater, utilities, transportation) preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 25% for project support; must be authorized to work in the U.S. and fluent in English.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and standardization of PLC-based control systems across industrial platforms.
• Oversee configuration and deployment of HMI/SCADA systems (Wonderware/AVEVA, FactoryTalk, WinCC).
• Establish and enforce control system standards, coding practices, and documentation.
• Drive development of data acquisition, alarm management, and reporting for visibility.
• Provide technical leadership during system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Mentor junior engineers and staff to support project execution.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet scope, performance, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee industrial networks, telemetry, and DCS integrations; review key deliverables.
• Support project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
