Qualifications

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Graduation from high school or GED required; a related degree is preferred.
• ICC Building Plans Examiner certification or obtain within specified timeframe.
• NFPA Fire Plan Examiner certification or obtain within specified timeframe.
• Experience reviewing commercial plans and enforcing building codes and fire safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Review commercial site plans, drawings, and fire/life safety plans for code compliance.
• Coordinate with planning, fire, public works, and engineering staff to obtain approvals.
• Explain building codes and standards to contractors, engineers, and property owners.
• Maintain records, plan review comments, inspection documentation, and departmental correspondence.
• Conduct site inspections and enforce codes and ordinances with professionalism and fairness.
