Job summary

City of Pasadena's Planning & Community Development Department seeks a Plans Examiner II in the Building & Safety Division to review building plans, fire protection system calculations, and specifications for compliance with California codes and adopted standards.

The examiner ensures plans meet uniform codes, prepares detailed review reports, and provides technical assistance at the permit counter, coordinating with engineers, architects, and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil, structural engineering, architecture or construction technology, and;
• Two years of experience in structural design, architecture design, or as a plans examiner, and;
• Possession of an ICC Certification as a Plans Examiner is required.

Responsibilities

• Checks plans and specifications and structural calculations for compliance with building codes and related laws.
• Ensures plans meet code requirements; makes corrections as needed.
• Performs site inspections and discusses changes with engineers, architects, and contractors.
• Interprets and explains requirements to engineers, architects, contractors, and the public.
