Job summary

Leadman - Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in work crew, providing assistance to Foreman, while working in the capacity of a journeyman.

Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and production and processing systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; experience in the field or related area.
• Follows instructions and pre-established guidelines under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Select pipe type and size per job specifications.
• Inspect site for obstructions.
• Plan installation sequence to avoid obstructions and other activities.
• Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, torch and pipe cutting machine.
• Thread pipe using threading machine.
• Bend pipe by hand or with bending tools.
• Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls/ceiling.
• Assemble and install pipes and fittings with joints (caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented).
• Secure pipes to structure with brackets and hangers.
• Install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems and controls.
• Test piping systems for leaks by pressure and gauges.
• Weld pipe supports to structural steel.
• Observe and operate machinery when needed.
• Load, transport and unload materials, tools, and supplies.
• Assist in lifting and positioning material during installation.
• Perform routine tool/equipment cleaning and maintenance.
• Observe safety and project rules; other duties as required.
