Job summary

IonQ in Boston, MA, is seeking a Lead Integrated Photonic Simulation & Layout Engineer to drive layout of photonic devices and support PDK development with commercial foundries.

You will own full-reticle tapeouts from floorplanning to GDS, validate designs with DRC/LVS, and collaborate with fabrication, test, and design teams to push quantum photonic platforms forward, including diamond photonics and thin-film lithium niobate.

Qualifications

PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Hands-on experience in diamond photonics, thin‑film lithium niobate, or ion trap photonics.
Experience generating layout for integrated photonic circuits with full-reticle tapeouts.
Proficiency with Python-based layout tools and PDK workflows.
Strong communication across design, fabrication, and test teams.

Responsibilities

Lead component design and layout for PDK development with commercial photonics foundries.
Own full-reticle tapeouts from floorplanning to GDS, including DRC/LVS and reviews.
Collaborate with fabrication and test teams to validate PDK components against measured performance.
Support design and layout for quantum photonic platforms (diamond photonics, LiNbO3, ion-trap).
