Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Health System's NAMPA MEDICAL CENTER is seeking a Pharmacy Tech Lead to guide daily technician operations and mentor peers. The role ensures resources and training are available, overseeing automation, packaging, or technician operations in collaboration with pharmacy leadership.

The position features a day shift, four 10-hour days (Mon-Fri) with three days off weekly, offering leadership responsibilities, staff coaching, scheduling, and process improvement to optimize workflow

Qualifications

• Must be licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician required; hospital experience preferred.
• National Certification (CPhT, ExCPT or equivalent) required.
• College level certificate or bachelor's degree preferred.

HOURS: You will enjoy three days off each week! The position will be four 10-hour days, M-F.

Requirements

• Must be licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician required; hospital experience required; preferred to have 6 months with Saint Alphonsus.
• National Certification (CPhT, ExCPT or equivalent) required.
• Completion of college level certificate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

What You Will Do

• Supervises and assists pharmacy technicians with their roles in the pharmacy.
• Provides structure and oversight for pharmacy technician orientation, training, and competency assurance. Coaches less experienced staff.
• Schedules pharmacy technicians, finds replacements for technicians out sick or on vacation and ensures shift changes run smoothly.
• Reviews and adjusts workflow to meet work demand (ex. sick calls, high patient volumes). Appropriately utilizes resources to ensure shifts are adequately covered.
• Conducts technician huddles and participates in department quarterly and annual meetings.
• Assists in hiring/recruitment (in coordination with pharmacy management)
• Counsels staff members on their performance and provides documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work performance at time of occurrence. Assists in performance evaluations in coordination with pharmacy management.
• Monitors monthly technician tasks (e.g., outdates, unit inspections) and provides follow up.
• Provides administrative and clerical support with regards to keeping records, running reports, and maintenance of data
• Supports timekeeping functions.
• Provides automated systems oversight and delegates duties, as appropriate.
• Maintains security and confidentiality of passwords for automated systems.
• Maintains system user files ensuring addition of new users, assignment of passwords and appropriate user privileges, and removal of terminated users in a timely manner.
• Ensures that look-alike, sound-alike medications are segregated in automated distribution equipment.
• Generates appropriate reports at specified times.
• Maintains outdated medication tracking function, ensuring appropriate expiration dates are entered, stock is rotated, and expired items removed.
• Oversees the filling of medications on restock lists and quarantines until checked and verified by a pharmacist; oversees the loading of medications from restock lists into automated distribution system correctly.
• Oversees processes for establishing and maintaining any medication kits/boxes/carts outside of automated dispensing cabinets.
• Maintains appropriate par levels for inventories in automated distribution equipment.
• Conducts controlled substances inventories and reconciliation in automated distribution system in accordance with state laws and regulations and facility policy.
• Reviews controlled substances discrepancy reports daily and reconciles unresolved discrepancies appropriately and in a timely manner as specified by facility policy.
• Utilizes data mining software to analyze data and identify inappropriate use of the automated distribution system.
• Ensures that automation processes are aligned with hospital policy (i.e., storage of controlled substances, hazardous medications, etc…).
• Provides oversight of drug shortage management as they relate to pharmacy automation processes.
• Assists with communicating with hospital colleagues regarding pharmacy automation processes.
• Participates in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication use.
• Prepares trending reports as appropriate for quality improvement activities based on analysis of data.
• Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff members; demonstrates good oral and written communication.
• Aids in the day-to-day needs of the department (in coordination with pharmacy management)
• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effectively uses available software and information systems.
• Adheres to health-system policies and procedures; complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control; complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations; and performs all duties under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
• Performs essential duties of pharmacy technicians when needed and as assigned.
