Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Health System is seeking a Pharmacist Intern to join a mentoring pharmacy team in Idaho. You will perform professional functions under the supervision of registered pharmacists and work on a 10-hour weekend shift schedule with options to increase hours in summers and breaks.

The role requires registration as an Extern/Intern with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy and emphasizes collaboration, patient care, and documentation accuracy within the hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must be registered as an Extern / Intern by the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physicians’ requests under the direction of a licensed pharmacist.
• Assists pharmacists and other healthcare providers in delivering patient care and services within state scope of practice for pharmacy interns.
• Ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to patients.
• Collaborates with practicing pharmacists who provide support and mentorship.

Works under the supervision and tutelage of registered pharmacists in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Idaho.

HOURS / SHIFTS:

The Pharmacist Intern could work one of the following:

• One 10-hour weekend shift a week, or
• One 10-hour weekend shift every two weeks, or
• Two 10-hour weekend shifts every two weeks

With opportunities to increase hours during summers and breaks, at the Intern's discretion.

Requirements

Must be registered as an Extern / Intern by the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.

What You Will Do

• Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
• The internship will allow the Pharmacist student to gain a better understanding of inpatient hospital pharmacy operations and pharmaceutical care.
• Collaborate and develop relationships with practicing Pharmacists who will provide support and mentorship.
• Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physicians’ request under the direction of a licensed pharmacist.
• Assists pharmacists and other healthcare providers in delivering patient care and services that are within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns.
• Ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients. Assists the pharmacist with ensuring safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. Intervenes and communicates effectively with the medical staff and other health professionals.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment.
