Job summary

Cogent Communications is seeking a field-driven engineer to manage network field activity and lead outside plant (OSP) projects across several states. You will assess and resolve conflicts with Cogent’s fiber, negotiate changes, and oversee cost estimates, scope, and bid packages.

You will supervise contract engineering and construction teams, coordinate with operations, Real Estate, and Contracts, and maintain accurate as-built drawings while responding to cable emergencies.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 1-5 years in outside plant engineering and construction.
• Experience managing construction or engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Lead complex OSP projects across multiple states.
• Assess excavation activities for conflicts with Cogent’s fiber.
• Negotiate changes to avoid conflicts with fiber cables.
• Prepare cost estimates, scope of work, and bid packages.
• Supervise contract engineering and construction personnel.
• Coordinate with operations, Real Estate, Contracts and other teams.
• Maintain as-built fiber route drawings and update drawings.
• Respond to emergencies involving Cogent cables.
• Lead major OSP relocation projects and reimbursable work.
• Review vendor construction plans and standards.
