Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. in Madison, WI seeks a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Network to design, build, and support scalable network infrastructure that underpins Akamai Connected Cloud. You will mentor engineers, drive standards, and advance automation with Python/Go, Bash, and CI/CD tools.

Lead deployment processes, define SLOs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure high availability and performance.

Qualifications

• 12 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience in Site or Network Reliability Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, or DevOps for large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, load balancing, and firewall concepts.
• Advanced proficiency with configuration management tools.
• Experience with Linux networking and open source networking software.
• Experience developing applications and scripting with Python, Bash, Go, or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and support solutions that improve efficiency and reliability.
• Mentor team members, enforce code quality, and shape architectural decisions.
• Collaborate on deployment standards and update documentation.
• Develop automation tools ( Bash, Python, Slack bots) and work with network developers.
• Define SLOs for network infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance.
• Collaborate with support, operations, and engineering on complex network issues; participate in on-call rotations.
