Job summary
Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a lead engineer in the Ship Survivability Department to support the construction, maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN 68 and CVN 78 class aircraft carriers. The role requires expertise in naval survivability, hull structures, welding and NDT, with responsibility for complex engineering challenges.

Qualifications
- ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
- Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
- Experience in naval ship survivability and hull systems.
- Strong problem-solving and cross-discipline collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversite, expertise, and design guidance for survivability systems.
- Communicate with internal and external personnel on technical matters.
- Represent the organization as a prime technical contact on projects.
- Apply extensive technical knowledge to solve complex survivability problems.
- Perform analyses and evaluations of survivability structural designs (FEA, NDT, etc.).
- Perform QA reviews of analyses, reports, drawings and models.
- Conduct ship checks to validate designs and address waterfront issues.
