Job summary

UVA Imaging is seeking a Lead MRI Technologist to advance leadership and MRI safety in an outpatient setting. You’ll perform high‑quality MRI procedures while guiding daily operations, supporting your team, and maintaining a patient‑focused environment.

This is a hands‑on role with opportunities for MRSO training and professional growth. Work Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM at 415 Ray C. Hunt Drive, Charlottesville, VA, with no on‑call requirements and a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years experience as an MRI technologist.
• Associate degree in Radiology or completion of an accredited MRI program.
• ARRT/ARMIT certification with MR advanced registry within 6 months for IDTF centers; state licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality MRI procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Lead and coordinate daily MRI workflow and department operations.
• Mentor and guide MRI technologists and staff.
• Maintain MRI safety standards and accreditation requirements.
• Assist with staffing, scheduling, training, and onboarding.
• Monitor image quality and ensure protocol adherence.
• Troubleshoot equipment and workflow concerns.
• Collaborate with radiologists and referring providers.
• Support patient satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 5 years experience as a MRI Technologistpreferred but not required

EDUCATION:

• Must have a minimum Associates Degree in Radiology or be a graduate of an accredited MRI program.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be registered or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography, or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMIT) and maintain current valid registration from ARRT or ARMIT. MR advanced registration through ARRT or ARMIT is required upon hire for IDTF centers. Non-IDTF centers require MR advanced registry within the first 6 months of employment. Additionally, must meet the state licensure requirement for the state in which they practice.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of routine to complex MRI procedures and protocols.
• Skill in operation of MRI equipment as well as applicable ancillary equipment.
• Ability to work independently and multitask.
• Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
• Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data.
