Job summary

1X is hiring a Motor Control Engineer to advance NEO’s REVO2 family of permanent magnet synchronous motors. You will design, simulate, and validate motor control across the jointed body, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and test teams to push performance while maintaining safety.

You’ll own control implementation from simulation to dyno to full robot, tuning encoders and calibrating sensors, and ensuring the system remains quiet, safe, and compliant in real-world use.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of industry experience designing and tuning motor control on real hardware.
• Shipped motor control: field-oriented control with PMSM/BLDC running on production hardware.
• Strong command of PMSM modelling in the dq frame and space-vector PWM.
• Experience with encoder calibration, motor parameter identification, and dyno testing.
• Ability to read embedded C/C++ and trace control behavior in code.

Responsibilities

• Design and tune field-oriented control with space-vector PWM and cascaded loops.
• Deliver torque and impedance control modes for backdrivability and safety.
• Build motor parameter identification processes and validate against dyno/robot data.
• Own encoder, Hall and resolver calibration and commutation offset procedures.
• Reduce torque ripple and acoustic noise through compensation and testing.
• Ensure safe torque-off behavior and fault handling in production.
