Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, CT, seeks a metallurgical laboratory specialist for an on-site role supporting source approval activities. The position covers preparation and analysis of metallurgical specimens from various parts and materials, with emphasis on microstructures and coatings and joining processes.

You will operate metallographic equipment, handle chemical reagents, and assist RSA/ESA engineers with specimen machining, testing, and logistics.

Qualifications

• AA/AS degree (or equivalent) with 8+ years in a metallurgical lab.
• Experience cutting, mounting, polishing, etching metallographic samples.
• Ability to evaluate microstructures from prepared specimens.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical specimens from various parts/materials for analysis.
• Evaluate, document microstructures and effects of repair processes.
• Maintain proficiency with cutting/mounting/polishing equipment.
• Handle reagents for specimen preparation and assist with testing logistics.
• Coordinate machining/testing with RSA/ESA engineers and manage sample shipping.
