Job summary

Phasic is building an in-house metal L-PBF capability near Baltimore (BWI) and seeks an engineer to stand up the lab, develop printable designs, and push yield, weight, and print time improvements. You will own the printing process end-to-end, from CAD and materials specs through post-print processing and documentation, coordinating with our overseas partner for production runs.

You will collaborate with thermal engineers to make designs printable, write procedures, and drive cost reductions

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on with metal L-PBF in production or advanced R&D.
• Experience with large-format, multi-laser machines (build envelopes ~400 mm+).
• Ability to translate designs into printable, high-yield parts.
• Build preparation: orientation, support strategy, nesting, laser assignment, and parameter development.
• Post-print and quality: stress relief, heat treatment, powder removal from internal channels, CT and leak testing, NCRs and root cause.
• Experience holding outside manufacturers to spec.
• Comfort building new processes where none exists.

Responsibilities

• Stand up the lab and commission the L-PBF printer cell, including safety and powder handling.
• Write operating procedures for printing, powder handling and post-print work.
• Work hands-on at the machine with the lab technician to run tests and prototypes.
• Direct design-for-additive efforts to improve yield, weight, time and cost.
• Own the partner relationship: parameters, test coupons, first articles and production runs.
• Oversee post-print chain: depowdering, heat treatment, CT scanning, testing and documentation.
