Job description

Job Title: Lead Medical Technologist

$10,000 Sign-on Bonus for External Candidates

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, every 4th weekend, with potential to work holidays and cover afternoon shifts if needed.

Role Overview

The Lead Medical Technologist, under general supervision, performs laboratory procedures and evaluations to assist physicians in diagnosis and provide quality patient care. As a microbiology laboratory technologist, you will conduct routine and complex tests, applying your knowledge of techniques, principles, quality control, and instrumentation. You will troubleshoot issues and ensure test accuracy. As a lead, you will also handle supervisory duties, assignments, and support the Laboratory Supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Identify patients and samples accurately per policy.
  2. Maintain specimen integrity.
  3. Report results efficiently and accurately from the computer system.
  4. Document receipt and open dates of supplies as required.
  5. Communicate workload status effectively to supervisors or incoming staff.
  6. Use Laboratory Information System functions proficiently.
  7. Prepare and maintain analytical equipment in proper condition.
  8. Follow guidelines when test systems are outside acceptable limits.
  9. Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating new techniques or procedures.
  10. Lead technical support in the absence of the Department Supervisor.
Lead Technologist Duties
  1. Manage clinical laboratory analyzers/instruments and support clinical staff.
  2. Review pending reports and manage critical call lists.
  3. Monitor and order supplies; coordinate schedules and coverage.
  4. Train and orient new team members.
  5. Lead monthly team huddles and step in for the Laboratory Supervisor when needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree or categorical experience with certification.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP).
  • Credentials such as MT, MLS, or CLS from ASCP.
Preferred Experience
  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience.
