Job description

Summary

The Lead Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) is part of the Nursing Service line at VA Boston Health Care System in West Roxbury, MA. This full-time position involves 40 hours per week, with travel to other VA Boston Healthcare System campuses as needed.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of 05/22/2025. Basic requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Six months of experience demonstrating the ability to perform the work or understanding of it
  • Or one year of higher education including health care-related courses
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

Additional qualifications involve meeting grade determinations for GS-07 and demonstrating specific knowledge, skills, and abilities such as instructing staff, communication, interpersonal skills, knowledge of sterility principles, and leadership abilities.

Duties
  • Lead a team of MSTs performing sterilization and decontamination tasks
  • Ensure workflow, compliance with SOPs, and quality standards
  • Distribute workload, monitor progress, and report to management
  • Instruct staff on policies, procedures, and goals
Physical and Work Environment

This work involves various settings, including decontamination and sterile supply areas, with exposure to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lit environments. It requires standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and dexterity for handling instrumentation.
