Job summary

UPMC in Lititz, PA seeks a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist to assist the Laboratory Supervisor by monitoring the work of technical staff and performing routine and advanced testing. The Lead MLS can act as the Supervisor in their absence, ensuring adherence to mission and hospital standards.

The role emphasizes test development, data gathering for management reports, staff training, QA/QC oversight, and collaboration across departments to maintain accuracy and timely results.

Responsibilities

• Assumes supervisory duties and performs in‑charge duties as needed.
• Evaluates problems in the absence of the Supervisor and solves those that are possible.
• Communicates issues with the Laboratory Supervisor, Manager or Director as appropriate.
• Participates in an extensive administrative call rotation with the other supervisory staff (only for Tissue Typing Laboratory).
• Supports instrument maintenance, QC review, QA reporting and staff competency.
