Job summary

ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to assist the Supervisor in directing daily Transfusion Services operations. This role involves coordinating workflow, reviewing results, and helping write and review technical procedures to uphold service standards.

Responsibilities include staffing, performance feedback, training, SOP updates, QC/QA activities, and proficiency testing.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Supervisor with the operation of the laboratory.
• Directs the daily workflow of the specific technical work section as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Provides timely written schedules for all employees and enforces time and attendance policies.
• Assists with interviews and recommends qualified individuals for positions within the section.
• Contributes to performance appraisals and may write and present appraisals.
• Provides input for corrective actions and maintains documentation of issues.
• Assists in training, competency assessment, and enforcement of policies with staff.
• Leads staff meetings and conducts one-on-one meetings as appropriate.
• Promotes continuing education and staff development activities.
• Writes and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Maintains adequate inventory and consults with Medical Director on technical issues.
• Develops and maintains scientific and technical expertise; contributes to lectures and staff in-service sessions.
• Assists with QC/QA activities and regulatory compliance; reviews patient results and resolves QC issues.
• Supports staff during instrument testing methods and ensures changes are communicated and implemented.
• Performs internal and external proficiency testing and handles problem resolution.
