Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Lead Medical Assistant (MA) is to work under the Clinic Manager to maintain patient flow and quality during clinic hours. The position collaborates with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff to provide comprehensive, non-judgmental care. It also involves training new and existing staff. The Lead MA maintains professionalism and promotes the core values of Behavioral Health Services, Inc. While assisting in healthcare delivery and patient care management, the Lead MA works under the direct supervision of licensed providers, following state laws and regulations regarding scope of practice.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising clinical staff and performance.
  • Train new and current staff alongside the clinic manager.
  • Help solve scheduling issues to improve efficiency and patient care.
  • Coordinate care for Population Management as part of a team.
  • Enforce clinic policies to uphold BHS principles.
  • Manage supplies through inventory and ordering.
  • Support projects like VFC, Vaccines for Adults, CHDP, Family Pact, Medi-Cal site visits, and patient portal.
  • Collaborate with staff on programs to improve patient outcomes and quality activities.
  • Participate in quality assurance and emergency kit checks.
  • Refer technical issues to appropriate support teams.
  • Assist with pre-visit planning and documentation, including vitals and initial screenings.
  • Document visits and communicate care plans to patients, ensuring understanding.
  • Coordinate follow-up care and community resource engagement.
  • Administer medications and assist with refills as ordered.
  • Maintain examination rooms and equipment.
  • Develop workflows for patient care transitions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and participate in professional development.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in medical terminology and EHR platforms like eClinicalWorks.
  • Basic referral knowledge.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for extended periods, with ability to push, pull, and reach.
  • Occasionally bend, sit, stoop, and stretch.
  • Assist patients with sitting and standing.
  • Operate medical and office equipment requiring manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
