Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead planning, design, and execution of building systems for science, technology, and mission-critical facilities. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and manage client relationships from concept through construction.

Responsibilities include HVAC design, field surveys, calculations, and construction documentation, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring adherence to codes and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in MEP consulting engineering, including mechanical system design and project coordination.
• PE license preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
• Experience designing HVAC systems for complex facilities (e.g., labs, life sciences, data centers, healthcare).

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, design, and execution of building systems projects for clients across Science & Technology and Mission Critical markets.
• Serve as primary client contact, building trusted relationships through clear communication and technical expertise.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously across scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
• Conduct field investigations and surveys to support design recommendations.
• Develop HVAC system designs, load calculations, equipment sizing, and energy-efficient solutions.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, narratives, drawings, and construction documents.
• Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, architectural, and owner stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers within a collaborative team.
