Job summary

LVI Associates in Minneapolis is assisting a growing design-build engineering firm to find a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will lead HVAC and plumbing design for complex projects. The role involves mentoring staff, reviewing calculations, and coordinating with architects and contractors from concept through construction.

The ideal candidate has ABET-accredited a mechanical engineering degree, 7+ years of experience, proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit, and a PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, HVAC design, plumbing design, or mechanical construction.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HVAC and plumbing system design for design-build projects.
  • Perform and review heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selections, and system sizing.
  • Develop mechanical system layouts and construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits and support project execution throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and designs for quality and code compliance.
  • Participate in project planning, construction coordination, and client meetings.
  • Support value engineering, estimating, and preconstruction efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Mentor engineers and designers while providing technical leadership across project teams.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, HVAC design, plumbing design, or mechanical construction
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, building codes, and construction practicesProven experience leading mechanical design efforts on commercial or industrial projects
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
  • Design-build project experience
  • Healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, data center, educational, or commercial project experience
  • Experience with Navisworks, SysQue, and Trane Trace
  • Cost estimating and value engineering experience
  • Piping and sheet metal fabrication knowledge
