Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for creating, maintaining, and validating system diagrams across the product lifecycle. You will mentor engineers, coordinate with customers, and ensure diagram integrity per MIL standards and project specifications.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering (ABET-accredited) with 5+ years of experience, plus the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Master’s Degree in engineering with relevant experience.
• Ph.D. with no required experience.
• U.S. Citizenship may be required for certain positions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and draftsmen, ensuring diagram integrity and conformance with customer and NNS requirements.
• Create, maintain, and revise as-built and as-designed system diagrams reflecting current configurations and changes.
• Perform network flow analyses to verify performance and safety criteria.
• Identify and document materials, components, and part numbers represented in diagrams.
• Review and approve drawings and product model files with QA and CM to ensure standards and specifications compliance.
• Troubleshoot shipboard and vendor issues affecting diagram accuracy or system performance; implement corrective actions.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers, gathering requirements and providing status updates.
