Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical products and systems, including instruments, controls, engines, and heat transfer systems for energy production, transmission and use. You will apply research to planning, design, development and testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.

The role emphasizes leading a team, updating diagrams, performing flow analyses, and documenting parts while coordinating with QA and customers

Qualifications

• Experience with engineering drawing standards and CAD/PLM tools.
• Strong analytical skills for network flow and systems analysis.
• Ability to lead and collaborate with shipboard personnel, vendors, and cross functional teams.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality documentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U NNS (or higher) security clearance.
• Ability to perform ship check per NNS Ship Check Program (LevelII or higher).

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and draftsmen.
• Create, maintain and revise as built and as designed system diagrams.
• Perform network flow analyses to verify performance and safety criteria.
• Identify and document all materials, components, and part numbers in diagrams.
• Review and approve drawings and product model files with QA and Configuration Management.
• Diagnose and resolve shipboard and vendor issues affecting diagrams.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers and ensure traceability to requirements.
