Job summary

Antenna Research Associates, Inc. in Laurel, MD is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to design antenna products, positioners, and accessories.

You will prepare engineering drawings, support proposals through technical design, assemble and test prototypes, and develop test requirements and manuals while mentoring engineers and leading cross-disciplinary teams to meet performance and MIL-STD standards. You will apply SolidWorks and FEA for design, support manufacturing of production

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and drawing creation to ASME Y14.100 standards.
• Advanced understanding of mechanical design principles and prototype testing.
• Proficient in use of FEA for structural and thermal design support and verification.
• Experience in electronics packaging for the defense industry or related field.
• Ability to assemble mechanical prototypes and perform advanced testing procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for documenting findings and collaborating with team members.
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods; additive manufacturing a plus.
• Knowledge of motion controls, motors, servos, and other mechanical hardware.
• DFMEA experience

Responsibilities

• Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility.
• Use SolidWorks and FEA to realize design concepts for electronics packaging and mechanical systems.
• Understand and communicate risk of design elements during development.
• Conduct research to evaluate feasibility, cost and maintenance of designs or applications.
• Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
• Design test control apparatus and procedures for testing products.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce high-quality products.
• Apply MIL-STD specifications to designs and test processes.
