Job summary

Holmberg Mechanical is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Washington to oversee mechanical system design from concept through construction. You will lead project teams, prepare complete drawings and specifications, and ensure code compliance and coordination with owners, architects, and contractors.

The role emphasizes leadership, technical excellence, and mentorship during exciting commercial, healthcare, and industrial projects in the Pacific Northwest.

Qualifications

• WA state PE license or willingness to obtain
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years HVAC or plumbing design experience
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems and codes
• Experience preparing calculations and stamped construction documents

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial projects.
• Serve as Engineer of Record with WA PE stamped documents.
• Develop mechanical concepts and Basis of Design documentation.
• Prepare construction drawings and specifications (Division 22 & 23).

What You'll Do

As our Lead Mechanical Engineer, you'll serve as the technical leader for mechanical system design.

You'll lead projects from concept through construction while collaborating closely with project managers, estimators, field teams, and owners to deliver exceptional results.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial construction projects.
• Serve as the Engineer of Record and provide Washington State PE-stamped construction documents
• Develop mechanical concepts and Basis of Design documentation
• Prepare complete construction drawings and Division 22 & 23 specifications
• Collaborate with owners, architects, contractors, and consultants throughout every phase of a project
• Participate in project pursuits, interviews, and proposal development to help win new work
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, designers, and project teams
• Support Design-Build, Design-Assist, Progressive Design-Build, MCCM, and Design-Bid-Build delivery methods
• Review drawings for quality, constructability, coordination, and code compliance
• Provide technical support during construction including submittal reviews, RFIs, field observations, and problem-solving
• Stay current with emerging technologies, energy codes, and industry best practices

Required Qualifications

• Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) License or be willing to get licensed in a short time frame
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 7+ years of HVAC OR plumbing design experience
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems and applicable building codes
• Experience preparing engineering calculations and stamped construction documents
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills

Preferred Qualifications

• BIM/Revit coordination
• Construction administration
• Proposal development and client presentations
