Senior / Lead Mechanical Engineer – HVAC

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior / Lead Mechanical Engineer to join a leading mechanical construction and engineering organization. This individual will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering and design services from conceptual design through construction completion, with a primary focus on HVAC systems and design-build projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, collaborating closely with construction teams, and seeing their designs carried through from concept into the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical/HVAC engineering and design efforts from conceptual design through construction documentation and project completion.
- Perform HVAC load calculations and develop equipment selections, system layouts, ductwork, and hydronic piping designs.
- Develop and review mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, and BIM models.
- Design systems in accordance with applicable building codes, energy codes, engineering standards, and project requirements.
- Apply engineering principles related to psychrometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, controls, energy efficiency, and mechanical system performance.
- Evaluate system alternatives and provide technical recommendations based on constructability, cost, efficiency, and long-term performance.
- Coordinate closely with Project Management, Construction, Preconstruction, Controls, Service, and other engineering disciplines.
- Participate in design coordination and constructability reviews with internal teams, clients, architects, engineers, and trade partners.
- Support field teams with technical problem solving, troubleshooting, RFIs, and engineering solutions throughout construction.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of engineering drawings, calculations, models, and project deliverables.
- Manage engineering priorities and deadlines across multiple projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of mechanical/HVAC engineering experience preferred.
- Experience with a design-build mechanical contractor, MEP engineering firm, or consulting engineering firm.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, ductwork, piping, controls, and building systems.
- Strong understanding of applicable building codes, energy codes, and industry standards.
- Experience developing mechanical designs from conceptual design through construction documents.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Strong communication, coordination, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both engineering and construction teams.
- Experience leading projects and/or mentoring engineers and designers is highly preferred.
- PE license is preferred but not required.
