Job summary

Door Controls USA is seeking a Mechanical Designer III in Texas to lead new product development and in-house manufacturing efforts. You will gather measurements, create 3D models and 2D drawings, and manage BOMs and design documentation for assemblies and components.

The role requires minimal supervision and close collaboration with R&D, production, procurement, purchasing, and machine shop teams to move products from concept to production with cost efficiency and manufacturability in mind.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Design Technology, Drafting and Design, Mechanical Design, Computer Modeling, Applied Science, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in 3D CAD design, mechanical design, product development support, or manufacturing design required; SolidWorks required.
• Experience with BOMs, prototypes, design changes, vendor coordination, and production management required.
• Experience using ERP systems to verify and update inventory records, BOMs, materials, and related information.

Responsibilities

• Create and update 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and design records for new and existing products.
• Lead product development, redesign, and cost reduction efforts.
• Diagnose issues and develop custom design solutions.
• Research competitor products and develop improved design concepts for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
• Perform make-versus-buy analyses and evaluate manufacturing methods (machining, casting, extrusion, injection molding, sheet metal, 3D printing, plating, coating, anodizing).
• Prepare drawings and information for vendor quotes and production release.
• Work with procurement to review quotes, lead times, quantities, and supplier capabilities to justify in-house vs outsourced production.
• Lead in manufacturing and design reviews/decisions.
• Communicate design intent and product requirements with production, assembly, quality, and machine shop teams.
• Lead prototype builds, testing, design changes, and production implementation.
• Prepare markups and supervise junior drafters/designers.
• Maintain drawing standards, revision control, and QC documentation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
