Our client, a leading aerospace and defense technology organization in Phoenix, seeks a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead rotor dynamics and mechanical design activities for aerospace rotating systems.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration across engineering teams, with a focus on delivering critical speed analyses, FEA validation, and robust design reviews. A strong background in aerospace mechanics is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Extensive rotor dynamics experience in aerospace or related industries, including ≥10 years.
• Proficiency with ANSYS APDL and/or ANSYS Workbench, including 1D beam-based FEAs.
• Strong rotor dynamics, shafting analyses, and rotating equipment behavior.
• Proven leadership leading aerospace mechanical design projects and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and rotor dynamics analysis for aerospace rotating systems (fans, compressors, turbines).
• Perform critical speed analysis, Campbell diagram mapping, and imbalance response predictions.
• Utilize ANSYS tools to support component and system design.
• Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and mentor engineering teams.
• Manage complex mechanical design projects across the product lifecycle.
