Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a senior engineer to lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on design/build and rehabilitation efforts for facilities. You will provide ongoing technical guidance and resolve engineering issues as needed.

The role includes conceptual design, leading project meetings, complex calculations, site inspections, and supervising junior engineers in HVAC, fire protection, and related systems, with strong communication and CAD skills demanded.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience.
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff, clients and general contractors.
• Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
• Excellent computer skills, including CAD and Microsoft Office (Excel).

Responsibilities

• Provide conceptual design for specific projects.
• Serve as design professional at project team design meetings.
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Performs complex calculations (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction/hydraulic calculations).
• Conduct site inspections to verify compliance and resolve design issues during construction.
• Supervise less-experienced engineers on HVAC, fire protection, or other system design and document production for projects.
