Job summary

MDS Staffing on behalf of a client manufacturer seeks a Senior Product Design Engineer in Buffalo, NY to design and develop precision products from concept through production release, combining mechanical design, analysis, prototyping, and customer collaboration.

You will create 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, perform tolerance analysis, and lead design reviews with manufacturing and suppliers. Strong collaboration and hands-on problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Progressive experience designing mechanical products or precision engineered assemblies through production release.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD, detailed drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering change control.
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, mechanical interfaces, and design verification.
• Ability to independently manage technical work and collaborate across functions.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements and application conditions into product specifications and detailed design concepts.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, production drawings, bills of materials, and design documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations, material selection, tolerance analysis, and design risk assessments.
• Design components and assemblies with temperature, pressure, sealing, interfaces, and manufacturability considerations.
• Develop prototype and validation plans, evaluate test results, and refine designs to meet performance requirements.
• Lead or contribute to design reviews and resolve technical issues with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers.
• Support new product introduction, engineering changes, and troubleshooting of production or field performance concerns.
• Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and improve design practices and reusable engineering knowledge.
